WATCH: Chinese Gym Teachers & Oregon Students Move and Learn Together

It isn鈥檛 uncommon for students at Raleigh Park Elementary School in Oregon to take a break from their studies and do a few burpee exercises next to their desks. Or maybe a handful of push-ups.

The Beaverton School District calls these activity-focused breaks 鈥渂rain boosts鈥 鈥斅燼nything from dance moves to finger exercises to get the brain warmed up and ready to learn. And a group of 28 gym teachers from China, hosted by Beaverton-based Nike, recently stopped by to see how it鈥檚 done, and to share some innovative phys ed techniques of their own.

鈥淣ike really believes that kids were not made to sit still 鈥 they were made to play,鈥 Caitlin Morris, general manager of community impact at Nike, told . 鈥淎nd we support innovation in getting kids moving in schools.鈥

The Chinese teachers, participants in Nike鈥檚 Active Schools Innovation Exchange, taught a PE lesson 鈥 complete with red fans 鈥 in Raleigh Park鈥檚 gym and dropped in on classes to do 鈥渂rain boosts鈥 along with the children.

鈥淭hey鈥檙e so friendly,鈥 Chinese teacher Lyu Shaowu said of the Raleigh Park students. 鈥淭hey鈥檙e always happy, and they鈥檙e confident, naturally.鈥

Whether in Oregon or in China, teachers and students share a common goal: keep kids moving 鈥 and learning.
