Incumbent Republican Doug Ducey defeated Democrat David Garcia in the Arizona governor鈥檚 race, according to projections from .听

Education was perhaps the in Arizona politics this year, sparked by massive in April, which lasted six days and resulted in Ducey promising a 20 percent pay raise for teachers by 2020.

Garcia supported the teachers during the walkouts and criticized Ducey for underfunding schools. , had Ducey with 58 percent of the vote, compared to Garcia’s 40 percent, with 8 percent of districts reporting.

Ducey expressed support for expanding , which was on the ballot for voters today. Garcia opposed the expansion.

Both candidates they favor more oversight for charter schools in the state, but Garcia was more forceful, saying the schools have a 鈥減rofit motive鈥 and aren鈥檛 transparent enough.
